If You Can't Find Google Street View, You Are Not Alone!

Did anyone else upgrade to the iPhone 2.2 firmware and then couldn't find Google Street View? I spent enough time poking around trying to find it that I'd do a short post on how to do it. So read on!

First of all, I was a web user/fan of Google Street View before trying it on the iPhone. Maybe that misled me, as you can see from the following screenshot, the Street View navigation is prominently displayed! (Here's a screenshot that shows the standard web version).



So what do you have to do to use it on the iPhone? Follow along with the steps outlined below, which apply to the screenshots above them.

Step 1: Start the Maps application. Type in two addresses that you want to use Google Street View for. You do NOT need to press the human icon, which is for walking directions, not Street View.



Step 2: Press the page curl button in the bottom right corner to take the steps to use Street View, which involve dropping a pin.



Step 2: This one is KEY. Press "Drop Pin" to drop a small purple pin into the map you pressed the curl button on.



Step 4: There should be a little white man in a red circle on the rectangular popup on your map. Press it to invoke Street View.



Step 5: Congratulations, you are now in Street View, just as in the standard web version. You can click the superimposed arrows or touch left/right to navigate your way around. The directional circle is useful, but it does not have the compass directions on the street labels.

Summary: Street View is a bit more difficult to navigate to from the Maps app in the standard web version, but I'm sure glad it's on the iPhone. Hope this was useful to you.
